The Latin-American Christian movement, “United for Children,” officially launched its Love your Neighbor campaign, promoting the well treatment culture towards children and violence prevention in the Evangelical church throughout Latin America and the Caribbean.
The announcement was made at the Presbyterian Central Church of Guatemala in front of a symbolic congregation made up of international members of the Christian church and coincided with the International Day Against Child Violence. A news conference to announce the launch of the campaign was held at the Marriott Hotel in the capital the day before. Participants of the news conference included key members of the collaborating organizations and of the movement “United for Children.”
Both events took place as part of the V Latin American and Caribbean Encounter on “Children and Church, and Abundant Life: A Christian Perspective of a Well-Treatment Culture,” held November 17-20. This encounter brought together expositors, church leaders, and organizations from several Latin American and Caribbean countries. Participants also included the First Indigenous Children Orchestra of Guatemala, sponsored by World Vision, who performed, among others, the first movement of Beethoven’s Fifth Symphony.
The “United for Children” movement is comprised of five Christian organizations – Christ for the City International, Compassion International, Tear Fund, Viva, and World Vision. The campaign will be three years in length and will be sourced from the movement’s website (www.juntosporlaninez.com), which will launch on March 20, 2009. The website will provide free teaching and instructional materials, best practices in child protection policies, the campaign’s jingle and Bible studies that promote the well treatment of children.
The Church of God in South America will be a part of this great initiative to launch a campaign to benefit children throughout Latin America. David Ramirez, field director to South America, had the opportunity to represent the Church of God in this great meeting celebrated in Guatemala among many nations, denominations and movements. We hope that with this action will have a strong voice to do advocacy for children who are being abused throughout Latin America.
