Christmas is a time of excitement, sharing, spending time with family and friends, and reflecting on the birth of Jesus.

At our house we read the Christmas story, sing carols, pray together, eat, exchange gifts, and talk about past Christmas experiences. Our four grandchildren under five add plenty of noise and joy. What fun it is to see the fulfilling experiences of Christmas.

John 1 reminds us that the Word became flesh and lived with us. Philippians 2 heralds the truth that Jesus left His place in heaven to be like us and show us that we could become like Him. Yes, the gift of Christmas changes everything.

A pastor shared with me that a young boy brought him a unique gift. The doorbell rang. The pastor saw no one at the door, but he found an old knife wrapped in paper. The knife was nicked from much use, and the metal was corroded. To the natural eye it had no value. But around the knife was a note from the boy. "Pastor, this is all I've got. I love you."

Christmas reminds us that God gave us His only begotten Son. He wrapped Him with a note to each of us: "God so loved the world that He gave."

As you share your gifts and experience your times of fun and joy, remember God's message of love, and remember also your responsibility to share that message with all people. Yes, Christmas can make a difference.

We at World Missions wish all of you a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.
